Pub quiz compiling all so often becomes a chore that never seems to end and something you enjoyed could dwindle into a time-consuming exercise. This often puts off new quiz compilers as they just don't have the sort of time and energy to put the effort in. Whilst there are no guarantees that it will make them a breeze to compile the tips and advice below will help it to become a far quicker process when forming your quizzes.
Have more than one pub quiz on the go at one time. This gives you the opportunity to split some questions that may come from the same source. Also if you have lots of bulky questions with background these can also be spread over a set of quizzes. This also assists when you are compiling on a weekly basis as you are adding to more and more quizzes as you start reducing the amount questions and answers needed for the next one.
Get your sources researched prior to compiling. Don't go out there and think you'll be able to research raw and compile a quality quiz at the same time. Separate the process and get yourself good sources before even thinking about compiling a quiz.
Follow the same format. If you are developing pub quizzes for the same establishment and want to keep them quick it goes without saying to make them the same format every time. This also helps quiz goers or masters get used the format. Every so often throw a different element in there. I call this "Fast show principles". Repeat the quiz format 3-4 times then mix it up a bit.
Vary the general knowledge topics. Don't stick with 3 or 4 different subject matters go for a varied amount. The more general topics you can get questions from the easier it is to churn quality questions and answers out for your pub quiz
Get someone to help. Have friends or partners get them to help you at least with resources for questions and answers. The more hands make light work but be warned when compiling a pub quiz you'll need to check all questions for their accuracy.
Go and check other pub quiz nights. Go to as many pub quizzes as you can over a couple of weeks. You don't need to be involved and stay to the end. Try to vary the establishments and be constructive when analysing them. Take what you've learned back and try to avoid the pit falls that your pub quiz research has shown.
It is a lot to do with preparation but it all pays off when you produce a good quality Pub Quiz.
